Nandi Temple, Bangalore (via Wikipedia)

South India, in general, is home to a lot of ancient temples. It is common to find temples that are several centuries old. Bangalore is not an exception to this tradition.

The older areas of Bangalore like Malleshwaram, Rajaji Nagar, Basavangudi have more temples compared to the new upcoming areas like HSR Layout, Kormangala etc.

There are lots of interesting places to see around Bangalore. Few of them are one-day-trip kinds. Some of the places are located a little far and warrant an overnight stay for a relaxed trip.

Nonetheless, there are some of them which can be reached in a reasonable amount of time. Especially with the road quality improving, it's becoming possible to cover more distance once you touch the highway.

Go, plan your weekend getaways!

Looking for a School in Bangalore for your child? Like any other fast growing city in India, Bangalore has a dearth of established schools. The established schools are far, few, expensive and unavailable. School admission is a dreaded nightmare for people moving to Bangalore from other cities/countries for work.

Accessibility to schools has taken a new meaning in Bangalore where the kids might have to travel more than an hour one way to the school.

The schools can now be broadly classified into 2 categories:

1. The old reputed ones: Like Bishop Cottons or Frank Anthony Public school

2. The new age schools: These have come up recently. The teaching methodology is more practical and interactive. They are a lot more relaxed and the kids enjoy going to these schools and not cry like we used to do!

The advantages of the old and famous ones is that, they have been around for such a long time, they are reputed and mostly as a parent you won't go wrong in putting your child there. Disadvantage being, your kid will not enjoy going to that school. Another disadvantage is the class size: min 60-65 kids in a class!

The biggest advantage of the new age school is that they are a lot more relaxed and most of the kids love to go to the school (to the extent that they don't like holidays). The class size is also a lot more reasonable: 25 to max 35 kids in a class and 2 teachers in pre-primary. The disadvantage being, they are still at budding stage. Which means, some may not have all the infrastructure that they have committed, some may have issues with teachers resigning too frequently, some may not be able to do full justice as far as academics is concerned especially in higher secondary classes sheerly due to less experience as compared to the old ones.

Age Cut-off: This is commonly asked by people seeking admission for their kids. Interestingly the age cut-off date for the admission varies from school to school. But in most cases, the child should have completed 6 years by June to Octobor to get admission in 1st standard. Again some schools are more strict than others in adhering to the cut-off date.

Bangalore has a close association with rock music thanks to the large number of pubs in the city, a vibrant cosmopolitan culture, large number of young professionals and students coming to the city from various parts of India and finally a very supporting music community/environment.
